Ride Smart BC ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in our mobile application.

Information Collection and Use

What We Do NOT Collect

Ride Smart BC does NOT collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers.

We do not:

• Collect personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
• Track your location
• Access your contacts, photos, or other device data
• Share any data with third parties (except as noted below)
• Use analytics or tracking services
• Require account creation or login

What We Store Locally

All application data is stored locally on your device using secure local storage (AsyncStorage). This includes:

• Quiz progress: Your quiz history, scores, and statistics
• Bookmarks: Questions you've bookmarked for review
• Settings: Your app preferences (theme, notifications, etc.)
• Premium status: Whether you've purchased premium features

This data:

• Remains on your device only
• Is not transmitted to any server
• Is not backed up to cloud services by our app
• Can be deleted by clearing app data or uninstalling the app

Third-Party Services

Google Play In-App Billing

We use Google Play In-App Billing to process premium feature purchases. When you make a purchase:

• Google Play processes the transaction
• Google may collect payment information according to their privacy policy
• We receive only a purchase confirmation (no payment details)
• Purchase history is managed by Google Play Store

No Other Third-Party Services

We do not use:

• Analytics services (Firebase, Google Analytics, etc.)
• Advertising networks
• Crash reporting services (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
• Social media integration
• Any other third-party SDKs or services

Permissions

Our app requests the following Android permissions:

INTERNET

• Purpose: Required for processing in-app purchases through Google Play
• Data Usage: Only used to communicate with Google Play billing services
• No personal data transmitted

POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Optional)

• Purpose: Allows the app to send local reminders for quiz practice
• Your Control: You can enable/disable notifications in app settings or device settings
• Local Only: Notifications are generated locally on your device (not from a server)

Children's Privacy

Our app is intended for users aged 16 and older (motorcycle learner permit age in British Columbia). We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

Data Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

• Security is managed by your device's operating system
• We recommend:
  • Using device lock screen security (PIN, pattern, biometric)
  • Keeping your device software updated
  • Not sharing your device with others if you want to keep progress private

Data Retention and Deletion

How Long We Keep Data

• Data remains on your device until you delete it
• No data is stored on external servers

How to Delete Your Data

You can delete all app data by:

1. Clear App Data (Android):
   • Go to Settings → Apps → Ride Smart BC → Storage → Clear Data
2. Uninstall the App:
   • All local data is automatically deleted

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted:

• In the app (if significant)
• On this page (with updated date)

Continued use of the app after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data (stored locally on your device)
• Delete your data (by clearing app data or uninstalling)
• Control notifications (in app settings or device settings)
• Request information about data handling (contact us)

Data Breach Notification

Since we do not collect or store data on external servers, there is no risk of a data breach from our systems. Your data security depends on your device security.

International Users

Our app is designed for users in British Columbia, Canada, but may be available in other regions. Data handling remains the same regardless of location—all data is stored locally on your device.

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For users in regions with GDPR or similar privacy laws:

• We process data based on legitimate interest (providing app functionality)
• All processing is local on your device
• We do not transfer data outside your device
